Alaska Airlines has announced the appointment of Ben Minicucci to staff vice president of maintenance.

Minicucci, 38, is currently vice president of aircraft maintenance for Air Canada in Vancouver, B.C.

Minicucci will be responsible for all of Alaska Airlines maintenance, including oversight and supervision of base maintenance, line maintenance, maintenance operations and production support. More than 1,000 maintenance technicians and management employees will report to him.

"Alaska Airlines is fortunate to have Ben assume this very important position," said Fred Mohr, vice president of maintenance and engineering. "He has extensive experience and knowledge in practically every facet of aviation maintenance matched by a proven record for bottom-line results. But, more important, Ben enjoys working with people and being on the front line with his employees. He is an outstanding leader with strong communications skills."

Minicucci joined Air Canada’s Technical Services department in 1997 following 14 years with the Canadian Armed Forces where he managed all aspects of military aircraft maintenance and participated in several key deployments, including the 1991 Persian Gulf War. His first job with Air Canada involved coaching management teams on progressive leadership styles. Later he was promoted to director of the airline’s heavy maintenance and base manager operations in Montreal and Vancouver. In his current position he has had a staff of more than 2,000 employees and responsibility for directing most of the scheduled maintenance for Air Canada’s fleet of 200 aircraft at bases in Montreal, Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver.

A graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada with a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Minicucci will join Alaska Airlines on May 12.
